Marshall Islands records sharp increase in number of COVID cases

The authorities of the Marshall Islands reported a sharp increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus, Report informs citing ABC radio station.

More than 10% of residents of the capital of the island state Majuro have tested positive for coronavirus.

More than 3,000 cases have been identified since August 8 in a country previously considered free of coronavirus, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

About 2,800 of them are registered in Majuro, where 22,500 people live. “We are preparing for a severe outbreak because, having studied the experience of other countries, we know that we are in for a wildfire-fast spread of the virus,” Jack Niedenthal, secretary of Health of the Marshall Islands, said on the air of the radio station.
