A magnitude-5.7 earthquake occurred in Choco Department at around 16:44 Aug. 27. The epicenter was about 4 km (2 miles) east of El Canton de San Pablo, Report informs, citing foreign media sources.
The tremor occurred at a depth of about 15 km (9 miles), and strong shaking was probably felt in areas near the epicenter, with light-to-moderate shaking likely felt in other parts of western Colombia. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.
