Lockdown proves inefficient in countering COVID in China

Mainland China has recorded 2,461 new cases of acute coronavirus infection over the past day, of which 2,388 cases were domestic, Report informs referring to the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China.

In addition, another 1,226 asymptomatic cases have been identified. In China, acute and asymptomatic cases are reported separately.

The spread of the infection continues despite the tough measures taken by the authorities, including lockdowns. A day earlier, 1,226 cases of acute infection and 1,206 asymptomatic cases were registered within the country.

A total of 126,324 COVID infections and 4,636 deaths from coronavirus-related diseases have been identified in mainland China since the start of the pandemic.
