Baku. 20 November. REPORT.AZ/ Lithuania will be forced to consider the possibility of leaving Interpol if Russian leader Alexander Prokopchuk is elected head of the organization. The corresponding resolution was adopted by the Seimas of Lithuania, Report informs citing the Delfi.
“If Prokopchuk is elected head of Interpol, then Lithuania, together with other democratic countries, will have to immediately consider the possibility of leaving the organization,” the document says.
88 deputies voted in support of the resolution, 0 against, seven abstained, reports Delfi.
The resolution notes that Prokopchuk is a candidate of the state that “constantly abuses the Interpol system.”
As emphasized, election of Russians will be "dealt a huge blow to the reputation and legal neutrality" of the organization.
Previously, Ukraine had threatened to withdraw from Interpol if it was headed by a candidate from Russia.
On November 20, it became known that a number of US senators called for opposition to the possible election of Alexander Prokopchuk to head the Interpol, which The Times called the favorite in the elections.
