Kazakhstan expects growth in freight traffic along Middle Corridor

Kazakhstan anticipates an increase in cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor, driven not only by transit between China and Europe but also by the transportation of goods produced by countries along the route, Report informs.

Aidar Abildabekov, Kazakhstan's Vice Minister of Trade and Integration, made the remark at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku on Friday.

According to him, developing the corridor's infrastructure will enable countries situated along the route to utilize it for delivering their own products to both China and Europe.

"All of this will increase trade not only from China to Europe but along the route as well. That is, we will also use this route to transport what we produce along this corridor further, delivering goods to China and bringing high-demand products to Europe at the same speed," Abildabekov said.

He noted that to boost cargo turnover along the Middle Corridor, Kazakhstan is actively developing its port infrastructure. The necessary facilities are already operational at the port of Aktau, and an additional terminal has been opened at another Kazakh port, which is currently undergoing modernization. Furthermore, dredging operations are being carried out at Kazakhstan's ports.

Abildabekov also announced the implementation of a railway construction project in Kazakhstan, backed by $1.4 billion in guarantees from international financial institutions.
