EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn who has been holding this position within the two recent European Commissions since 2014, is likely to leave his post.

Report informs citing the RIA Novosti that he made the due statement at a joint press conference in Belgrade held with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić.

"I will probably leave my post, but I will remain committed to the region, whatever my next job. I hope that the future head of the EC Ursula von der Leyen will work on the European perspective of the Western Balkans," he said.

Hahn thanked his Serbian colleagues for their cooperation over the past years and promised further support to Belgrade on the way to the EU.

Answering the question what position he will take in the new composition of the European Commission, the politician said: "I would like to know, but I do not know."

According to him, by the end of August, lists of candidates are being formed, on the basis of which the future head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Lyayen, will form its new composition by November 1 “in accordance with its goals”.
