Japanese citizen dies of coronavirus in Wuhan

A Japanese man in his 60s had been hospitalized since January 22 with severe pneumonia.

He was suspected of being infected with a new coronavirus has died in the Chinese city of Wuhan, Japan's Foreign Ministry said Saturday, in what would be the first Japanese death resulting from the deadly virus.

The hospital in the city had tested the man for the virus, but it had notified Japanese officials that it was unable to conclude whether he was infected.

The ministry declined to disclose the man's name and other details, citing privacy.
