According to Italian doctors, Italy has recorded its first case of new coronavirus strain detected in Britain , Report mentions, citing La Republica.

Moreover, experts note that this strain has been present in the Apennines since August 2020.

"From the first days of August, a very similar variant of the 'British' type of COVID-19 has spread in Italy," said Arnaldo Caruso, head of the Italian Association of Virologists.

He noted that the scientists discovered the strain in a patient during the observation. The patient contracted the virus in April.

Earlier, Germany, Switzerland, Nigeria, and Canada also reported a new mutated variant, first detected in Britain. However, French officials did not rule out the possibility of coronavirus strain in the country.

The novel version is more contagious and therefore considered dangerous.
