Iraqi President Barham Salih submitted his resignation to the Parliament amid social unrest that has been shaking the country since the beginning of October, Report informs, citing the Al-Arabiya.
"My national responsibility in this circumstance requires me to resign. The position of President of the Republic must respond to the will of the people. I am preparing for my resignation in front of the Iraqi Parliament," Salih reportedly told Parliament, apologizing for selecting the Governor of Basra Province Asaad al-Idani for "building block" candidate.
On October 31, Iraq's Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi stepped down, giving in to protesters' demands.
