India's COVID case count nears 29 million

Almost 29 million people have contracted the coronavirus in India since the pandemic onset in March 2020, Report informs, citing the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Over the past day, the increase in cases was less than 100,000 people for the first time in more than two months.
According to the latest data, since March 2020, the coronavirus has been detected in 28.99 million people, more than 27.3 million of them have recovered, and over 351,000 have died. The number of people receiving treatment for COVID has dropped to 1.3 million.
Over the past day, India registered 86,400 new cases of coronavirus infection.
For twelve days, the number of coronavirus cases in India does not exceed 200,000 per day, which indicates a decline in the second wave. The second wave of the pandemic began in India in February this year. From April 21 to May 17, the number of new cases exceeded 300,000 per day - more than in any other country, and the country five times recorded an incidence of over 400,000. The highest number of active cases during the second wave was more than 3.7 million.
The Health Ministry also noted an increase in the number of people vaccinated against coronavirus - more than 235 million people, or just over 17% of the country's population. Almost 47 million Indians have received both doses of the vaccine.
