Over the past 24 hours, 773 people contracted coronavirus in India, taking the total number of cases to 5,194, according to the country’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
At present, 4,643 patients are being treated, while 149 others have died.
The country’s Maharashtra state tops the list with 1,018 cases while Tamil Nadu (690) and capital city Delhi (690) follow it.
India has imposed a self-isolation regime nationwide until April 21.
The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to over 200 countries and territories since then.
To date, COVID-19 cases surpassed 1,400,000 globally, resulting in 287,699 recoveries and 80,000 deaths.
On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
