India reports fewer than 200,000 COVID cases for 1st time since April

Over the past day, India detected fewer than 200,000 coronavirus cases for the first time since mid-April, Report informs, citing the Indian Health Ministry.

So, Indian health specialists recorded 196,427 cases of infection and 326,850 recoveries.

According to the latest figures, the country’s total COVID tally has exceeded 26.9 million. To date, more than 24 million have recovered, and over 307,000 have died due to COVID related health complications. Currently, 2.5 million coronavirus-positive people are receiving treatment in the country.

India remains the second in the world with the number of detected coronavirus cases. From April 21 through May 17, the number of new cases exceeded 300,000 people per day - more than in any other country in the world, and five times exceeded 400,000. The highest number of people being treated for COVID-19 during the second wave of the pandemic was more than 3.7 million.
