India records almost 200,000 new COVID cases per day

Over the past day, India registered 199,376 cases of coronavirus infection, and over 1,000 COVID-related deaths, Report informs referring to the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

These are the largest numbers of those infected and died in one day since the pandemic onset in the country.

The rise in the incidence has continued for the 36th day in India. As a result, the number of people receiving treatment for COVID has grown from 135,900 to more than 1.4 million.

India has the second-largest number of detected coronavirus cases in the world. According to the latest data from the Health Ministry, more than 14 million cases have been registered in the country. More than 12.4 million people have already recovered from the disease in the country, while 173,000 died.

Indian authorities have introduced a quarantine regime until May 1.
