Global COVID incidence down by 14%

More than 4.1 million cases of coronavirus infection and over 84,000 deaths were registered globally last week. Compared to the previous seven days, the morbidity and mortality decreased by 14% and 2%, respectively, Report informs, citing the World Health Organization (WHO).
4,144,658 new infections and 84,306 deaths were registered around the world between May 16 and 23. As of May 23, the global COVID tally was 166,352,007 and the death toll reached 3,449,189.
The incidence increased last week only in Africa (by 4%) and in the Americas (by 2%), while in Europe the number of new infections decreased by 25%, in Southeast Asia by 21%, in the Eastern Mediterranean by 2%. Mortality increased in the Western Pacific region (by 22%), Southeast Asia (by 4%), Africa (by 2%), the Americas (by 1%), but decreased in Europe (by 21%) and Eastern Mediterranean (by 11%).
