Global COVID-19 cases top 7.2 mln

The global tally of COVID-19 pandemic has spiked to 7,200,354.

The number of people who recovered from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has risen to 3,536,977 worldwide, while the death toll stands at 408,744.

Over 82,000 people have died of the virus in the last 20 days.

Most cases are in US (2,026,493), Brazil (710,887) and Russia (476,658). Turkey reported 171,121 cases, 4,711 deaths so far. Iran confirmed 173,832 cases and 8,351 fatalities.

So far, Azerbaijan has 7,876 cases. A total of 4,377 patients have recovered from the disease, while 93 others lost their lives.

In Asia, where the disease began, the spread continues. Although, in China, it seems, for now, to have passed its peak. In Europe, most countries have closed schools, and many are in lockdown.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to over 200 countries and territories since then.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
