Germany to supply reconnaissance drones to Ukraine

By the end of 2023, the German defense concern Rheinmetall will supply the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a modern reconnaissance drone LUNA NG, Report informs referring to Bild newspaper.

The UAV kit includes, among other things, a ground control station with several drones and a launch catapult. LUNA NG is a completely new drone system that surpasses the previous model in all key features. In addition to being used as a reconnaissance system, UAVs of this type can also provide an LTE network, intercept or jam communications. NG stands for "New Generation" of the LUNA drone.

Other UAV models have already been delivered to Ukraine from the stocks of the Bundeswehr. In addition, there will be a model that can carry weapons. However, this is not possible with the current version, which will be delivered to Kyiv.

LUNA NG is an upgraded version of the Luna X-2000 drone, which has been in service with the Bundeswehr since the early 2000s. It is a light aircraft-type reconnaissance drone capable of continuous flight for 12 hours over a distance of over 100 km. The launch is carried out from a catapult.
