French President Emmanuel Macron has declared that he will stand against US President Donald Trump’s administration if it imposes new tariffs on European goods, Report informs.
In an interview with CNN, Macron emphasized that such measures would not only hit the European Union (EU) economy but would also cause price increases for Americans themselves.
"If you impose tariffs in various sectors, this will increase costs in the US and cause inflation. Do your citizens want this? I'm not sure," Macron addressed Trump.
The French leader believes that the main threat to the US is not Europe, but China.
When asked whether he was ready to "stand against" Donald Trump on the issue of tariffs, Macron replied: "I have already done this and will do it again."
He emphasized that the European Union must be ready to protect its interests: "If we have problems with tariffs, we will discuss them and take appropriate measures."
