France sees its lowest birth rate since WWII

The birth rate in France has dropped to a record low for the entire post-war period of the country's history, Report informs with reference to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee).

“In 2022, 726,000 children were born in France, which was the lowest figure since the end of World War II,” the institute said.

According to sociologists, the most significant decline in fertility is observed among women aged 25-34 years and is recorded in almost all French regions. At the same time, the birth rate among women over 40 is growing.

According to statistics, over the past 10 years, the average age of mothers in France has increased from 30 to 31 years. In addition, the researchers note that 65% of children were born out of marriage, while in 2012 this figure was 57%.
