As a result of the flooding of the Rhine River in Germany, life was paralyzed in cities such as Cologne, Bonn, and Düsseldorf, the Report’s European Bureau informs.
The water level in these cities, located on the banks of the river, which is the longest river in Europe and takes its source from the Alps, rose by 2 meters last week to 6.5 meters.
As a result, houses, workplaces, commercial facilities, and parks located close to the bank were flooded. The overflowing of the river caused problems with traffic. Many workplaces have called on their employees to stay at home.
Due to the flooding of the ports, ferry trips have been postponed, and the movement of cargo ships has been restricted. The movement of ships carrying fuel has been temporarily suspended. This has led to an increase in the price of fuel.
