European Commission allocates €130 million to strengthen counter-drone systems

The European Commission said it was allocating an additional €130 million to help European Union member states strengthen their counter-drone systems as part of efforts to enhance border security.

According to Report, citing the European Commission, the funding would be provided under the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI).

The Commission said the additional allocation was intended to strengthen support for member states in countering unmanned aerial vehicles.

It added that the measure formed part of the EU's efforts to improve border surveillance systems and increase the effectiveness of its response to emerging security threats.

The Commission had previously allocated €419 million for these purposes, as well as for the procurement of reconnaissance drones and related equipment for the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) and EU member states.
