Ebola death toll in DR Congo reaches 864

The death toll from Ebola virus infections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reached 864, Report informs, citing EFE, which referred to local authorities.
According to the information, 2,181 infection cases have been confirmed, 722 patients have been hospitalized, and 412 people have recovered. The fatality rate currently stands at 39.6%.
The outbreak has spread to the eastern provinces of Ituri, the epicenter of the epidemic, as well as North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uele and Tshopo. Ituri province has recorded the highest number of infections.
Response teams are reportedly expanding epidemiological surveillance, early diagnosis, patient care and contact tracing to prevent the spread of the disease.
