Defense ministry: Minsk reserves right to take deterrence measures to prevent attack

Belarus reserves the right to take measures of strategic deterrence to prevent an attack or neutralize an armed conflict, Head of the Department of Military Cooperation of Belarus Defense Ministry, Colonel Valery Revenko said at a briefing for foreign military diplomats, Report informs.

“The Republic of Belarus will defend its national interests using all available means, including through the use of military force, and reserving the right to take a set of measures of strategic deterrence in order to prevent an attack or neutralize an internal armed conflict,” Revenko said.

As the representative of the ministry noted, Minsk is worried about the build-up of Poland’s military potential against the background of statements by the country’s defense department about its readiness to start a war in the next 3-10 years.

“We are also concerned about the build-up of the Polish military potential. On the one hand, this is an internal affair of Poland, and the preparation of the army for its intended purpose is a natural process. On the other hand, all this is happening against the backdrop of the fact that the Polish defense department has openly declared its readiness to start a war in the coming 3-10 years. Let me emphasize: not building up the defensive potential, but war,” Revenko said.
