Death toll from Venezuela earthquake rises to 4,930

The death toll from the strong earthquake in Venezuela has reached 4,930, the country's National Assembly Speaker, Jorge Rodríguez, announced on Telegram, Report informs.

The latest figures show that 16,740 people sustained injuries of varying severity, while 17,907 were left homeless. The quake destroyed 190 buildings and caused serious damage to 856 structures.

Rescue operations have saved 6,462 people, while 35,781 received medical care in hospitals. In addition, 128,324 families have been provided with support, 21,210 people relocated to 107 temporary camps, and 10,063 tons of food delivered to those affected.

The earthquake struck on the evening of June 24, with two tremors of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude occurring about 40 seconds apart in Yaracuy State, just 10 kilometers from each other. Since then, 1,308 aftershocks have been recorded.
