Cyclone Gaja approaching India: 11 people died, 76,000 evacuated

Baku. 16 November. REPORT.AZ/ Cyclone Gaja hit the Indian state of Tamil Nadu in the south of the country, 11 people died, more than 76,000 were evacuated to safer areas, Report informs citing RIA Novosti.
Torrential rains, accompanied by strong wind, hit the coastal areas of the state the day before, the cyclone intensified this night. Most affected by the disaster are the cities of Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Thanjavur. Cyclone fell the trees in the cities and caused power outage in some areas. Classes were canceled in seven areas of the state in educational institutions. Those who were evacuated are placed in more than 300 shelters.
