On Friday, June 5, the President of the Republic of Colombia, Mr. Iván Duque, will lead the opening ceremony, accompanied by essential world leaders.
The Embassy of Colombia in the Republic of Azerbaijan is pleased to announce that Colombia will be the host country for the commemoration of World Environment Day that will take place on June 5, 2020. This event seeks to raise awareness of environmental protection, call on government leaders, civil society and the private sector to work in an articulated manner in the face of climate change, the conservation and sustainable use of Biodiversity, and sustainable development.
The event will have Biodiversity as its main theme and will be held in a virtual format, given the pandemic caused by COVID-19.
In the framework of this commemoration, a series of panels and dialogues will be held with experts on topics as relevant as conservation of the Amazon, sustainable use of Biodiversity, green businesses, and the COVID-19 pandemic; air quality; climate change and circular energy, among others. Messages from global leaders, celebrities, representatives of local communities, and indigenous peoples, businesses, and civil society will also be presented.
The opening ceremony is scheduled at 7:30 - 8:30 GMT-5 (16:30 - 17:30 Baku time) and will be led by the President of the Republic of Colombia, Iván Duque Márquez; the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres; the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program, Inger Andersen; the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, Luis Alberto Moreno; the Founder and Director-General of the World Economic Forum, Professor Klaus Schwab; the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of Colombia, Ricardo Lozano; in addition to other participants to be confirmed.
