Brussels to host Taliban delegation to discuss migrant return

A Taliban delegation will arrive in Brussels today for talks with the EU on the return of rejected asylum seekers to Afghanistan, Report informs referring to The Times of Israel.

Belgian authorities issued one-day visas to the delegation members for the meeting.

The talks were organized at the initiative of the European Commission as part of efforts to combat illegal migration and the increasing number of deportations, despite the EU not officially recognizing the Taliban government.

According to media reports, the decision to hold the meeting drew criticism from human rights organizations, which called on the European Commission to refrain from engaging with representatives of the movement.

The Belgian Foreign Ministry stated that five one-day visas were issued yesterday following a security assessment.

These visas are valid only for Belgium, not the entire Schengen area.

The delegation is expected to enter and leave the country via Türkiye.
