Belgium officially assumed its seat as non-permanent member of UN Security Council

Baku. 1 January. REPORT.AZ/ Belgium elected to serve as non-permanent member of UN Security Council. Report informs citing the RIA Novosti, the Kingdom’s Foreign Office said that over the next two years Belgium "will be a constructive, reliable and open partner in the search, together with other members of Council and all interested parties, of collective responses to international issues of peace and security."

Belgium's foreign and defense minister Didier Reynders, in a statement, said his country would focus on conflict prevention, protection of individuals-especially children in conflict zones, and efficient management of UN missions.

In February 2020, Belgium will chair the UN Security Council, the non-permanent member of which the country already occupied 2007–2008, according to a press release.
