The Belgian Cabinet has approved a draft decision banning the re-export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia in accordance with the EU sanctions imposed earlier, the government's press service said, Report informs via RIA Novosti.
"The draft royal decree provides for a number of obligations and control mechanisms designed to ensure compliance with bans within the framework of EU Regulation 2024/1745," the document says.
The decision of the Belgian government provides for a ban on the transshipment of LNG from Russia, as well as the provision of related technical or financial services.
This decision has yet to be approved by the Belgian Council of State, which monitors compliance with Belgian laws.
In June 2024, the EU imposed sanctions that from March 2025 will restrict the provision of services for the transportation of Russian liquefied natural gas through terminals in the European Union to third countries, but EU members themselves will be able to continue to buy "blue fuel" from Russia in the same mode. The ban applies both to the transshipment of fuel from one vessel to another, and to overloading on the coast.
