The federal German state of Bavaria wants to operate nuclear power plants on its territory, despite the refusal of Germany from nuclear energy, Prime Minister of the region Markus Söder said, Report informs referring to the Bild newspaper.

He suggested that the government give temporary permission until the crisis is over and the transition to renewable energy is successful.

“Bavaria demands that the federal government take responsibility for the continuous operation of nuclear energy. Until the crisis is over and the transition to renewable energy sources has not been successful, we must use all types of energy before the end of the decade,” explained Söder.

He stressed that the region will independently be responsible for the operation of nuclear power plants on its territory - the Isar-2 station. He also added that he was calling for permission for the federal state to build a new reactor for research purposes.

"The government should immediately submit a contingency plan for the immediate reactivation of three nuclear power plants," he noted.
