At least 211 killed in Myanmar anti-coup protests

The death toll in clashes between protesters and the police and military in Myanmar has already exceeded 200 since early February, Acting UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Myanmar Andrew Kirkwood said in a video briefing, Report informs referring to TASS.

“According to our information, at least 211 people have been killed in the past seven weeks,” Kirkwood said.

“There are at least 15 children among the killed civilians,” he added.

He noted that the numbers can be much higher.

Kirkwood added that, according to information collected by UN officials in Myanmar, at least 2,400 people were detained. Some of them were subjected to violence.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned brutal violence by the military in Myanmar. According to him, the killing of peaceful demonstrators and arbitrary arrests, including of journalists, are completely unacceptable.
