Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei has been diagnosed with COVID-19, Report informs, referring to TASS.
"We will address the nation because the test I gave the day before (coronavirus-red) was positive," the Republica newspaper says, citing a statement made by the head of state on one local radio station.
Giammattei told members of the Guatemalan government would be tested for the virus.
"I urge all state members who have been in contact with me for a week to take tests to make sure there are no new infections," he stated: "After that, we will decide whether they will continue to work in the current regime or perform their duties remotely."
The leader added that he had been tested for the sixth time since the beginning of the pandemic.
Earlier, the presidents of Brazil, Honduras, and Bolivia contracted with COVID-19.
