Nearly 1,200 people have been detained in New Delhi over the past day over protests against the new citizenship law, Report informs, citing TASS.
The detained were taken to Surjmal and Rajiv Gandhi stadiums, but by morning most of them were released. Opposition leaders and many others took to the streets to protest in the Indian capital despite the authorities' ban.
Shortly before these actions, the government instructed the largest mobile operators to temporarily limit the ability of citizens to make calls, use the mobile Internet, send voice and SMS messages. However, as of Friday morning, these services were restored in most areas of the city.
