Report/ Elchin Murad

Baku. 21 December. REPORT.AZ/ "The psycho-social situation of women on the border and conflict zone affects the number of children born with abnormalities," Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, Hijran Huseynova said.

Report informs she spoke at  the "Human Capital Forum in Azerbaijan".

She said the ceasefire is violated every day: "As a result, civilians, children are wounded, killed, while residential and service facilities are damaged. Living in the conflict zone affects people's psychological, social and economic life. These situations especially affect women's psycho-social status, so they have stress in their daily life. Frequent stressful situations during pregnancy affect newborns and this factor contributes to occurrence of early childhood problems and increases the number of children born with congenital abnormalities."

According to Huseynova, the State Committee studied the situation in the frontline area: "The studies revealed that most children are born with congenital abnormalities though before the conflict broke out, this area had boosted a strong genetic background."
