Azerbaijani people honor memory of Khojaly genocide victims

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, the Azerbaijani people are paying tribute to the Mother's Cry monument, erected in Baku in memory of the victims of the tragedy.

Report informs, representatives of the intelligentsia, the public, as well as ordinary citizens lay flowers at the monument, read prayers for the repose of the souls of the victims of the tragedy.

A nationwide procession was also held in Baku over the 30th anniversary of the bloody tragedy, in which Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva took part.

On the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed units, with the support of the 366th motorized rifle regiment of the former USSR, attacked the city of Khojaly. Some 2,500 residents of the city moved in the direction of Aghdam in order to escape. However, civilians came under fire from Armenians.

Another massacre of the Armenian aggressors against the Azerbaijani people claimed the lives of 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children, 70 elderly. 1,275 civilians were taken prisoner, the fate of 150 of them is still unknown. 475 people became disabled. Eight families were completely destroyed and 25 children lost both parents and 130 children lost one of their parents.
