Independent MP responds to colleague’s remarks

"The bill submitted by the president to the parliament is fully consistent with the current situation in Azerbaijan," MP Vahid Ahmadov said at the discussions of the bill "On Independence Day" at today's plenary session of parliament.

According to him, the "Constitutional Act on Independence" was adopted in Azerbaijan on October 18, 1991: "Some parliamentarians here noted that Azerbaijan is one of the countries in the CIS that restored its independence late. Some parliamentarians said at the time that if Azerbaijan restored its independence, it would not be able to support itself. It is very easy to talk here now. In connection with the referendum, 43 parliamentarians voted in this hall to abolish the USSR. One of them was the great leader Heydar Aliyev. Now I do not accept the humiliation of parliamentarians, who had voted against the preservation of the USSR."

Speaking at today's session of the Milli Majlis, MP Siyavush Novruzov noted that as a result of the actions of the PFA-Musavat duo, Azerbaijan became one of the countries that declared its independence late: “National leader Heydar Aliyev managed to separate Nakhchivan from the USSR. If we have a statement or appeal on October 18, this part must be taken into account. The national leader was one of the first people in parliament to work for the restoration of independence. There were two votes at that time. Today, those who consider themselves pro-independence MPs consider the parliamentarians, who did not vote for the restoration of independence as those against independence. History must be brought to the future correctly."
