Penetrating the front from the Jabrayil direction during the Patriotic War ensured access to Karabakh, Rashad Nasibli, a veteran (ghazi) of the Special Forces of the Ministry of Defense, told Report.

"The enemy also well understood that the loss of these territories would be their defeat, the beginning of Shusha victory," he said.

According to him, Armenian armed units built 28 strong fortifications during the nearly 30-year occupation:

"The first operation in Jabrayil started from the direction of Leletepe. Since the enemy realized that we were going to liberate Jabrayil, it had concentrated all its artillery forces here. Warrant officer Ilkin Zulfugarov became our first martyr here. But this could not harm our determination. In the lower part of Leletepe, the Armenian units were tightly united. When we attacked, they left behind their equipment, ammunition, and combat vehicles and run away. Beyrak Fezullayev, who carried only weapons and ammunition instead of water and food in his 35-kilogram bag with his broken hand, was martyred in the next day's battle. He was happy for every inch of land we freed from the occupation. In the battles, warrant officer Ramig Tagiyev from the legendary special forces battalion was also wounded in the head. However, he bandaged his wound and continued to fight. There were sabotage groups of the enemy near the place called a television tower in Jabrayil. Their goal was to prevent our attack. However, having destroyed the Armenians, we approached the tower. We were given the next task that a certain group should fire at the Armenian units in the tower, and our other units would make a certain maneuver and take full control of the area. The enemy had deployed all its main units to this place. A certain part of the legendary 1st and 3rd battalions of the special forces attacked the tower."

Shahruz Tarverdiyev, a veteran of the special forces, who took part in the battles for Jabrayil's liberation, said that at that time, the enemy had a higher position than ours:

"We fought fiercely for two days for the TV tower. We had wounded servicemen. Although the Armenian armed forces had more than 300 personnel, they retreated with more than 150 casualties, and the city of Jabrayil came under our control. At the same time, we took a lot of military trophies. My late comrade-in-arms Shahriyar Guliyev, awarded the Order of Karabakh, filmed this victory. He names some people who had a share in the victory, including me. Unfortunately, many of my comrades-in-arms in that footage were martyred."

"Although 2 years have passed since the Patriotic War, the enemy still commits armed provocations. We witnessed this on September 12-13, but they failed again. They have already understood that even if 2 years pass, 5 years pass, or 100 years pass, the 'Iron Fist' will always crush their heads, as Mr. President said," Nasibli stressed.

According to the relevant orders of the President of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, Rashad Nasibli was awarded medals "For the Liberation of Jabrayil," "For the Liberation of Fuzuli," "For the Liberation of Khojavend," and "For Heroism." Shahruz Tarverdiyev was awarded medals "For Homeland," "For Bravery," "Brave Warrior," "For the Liberation of Khojavend," "For the Liberation of Kalbajar", and "For the Liberation of Shusha."
