Azerbaijan celebrating creation of its Special Forces today

Today marks the 23rd anniversary since the establishment of the Special Forces of Azerbaijan.

Report informs that the Special Forces were formed under the Ministry of Defense on April 30, 1999. Officers and commanders who were participants in the First Karabakh War took part in the formation of special forces.

A unique role in forming the special forces belongs to the Special Forces of the Turkish Armed Forces.

During the Second Karabakh War, the special forces liberated several territories from occupation. On November 8, President Ilham Aliyev congratulated Hikmat Mirzoyev on the liberation of the city of Shusha.

Azerbaijani special forces are generally trained in the military academies of Turkiye and Pakistan.

Thirty-six members of special forces were awarded the title of the Heroes of Patriotic War.
