Azerbaijan's media landscape expands with new radio channels

The Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a regular meeting on January 31, 2025, to address various issues related to licensing for certain types of activities.

The Council told Report that the results of two competitions for the issuance of nationwide terrestrial radio broadcasting licenses were announced. The competition commission presented a report on the verification of documents, technical capabilities, personnel composition, and financial and economic potential of the applicants.

Out of the five applicants admitted to the competition, Pro Media Group LLC (Planet FM radio channel) and Broadcast Media LLC (Dalğa FM radio channel) were declared the winners. As per the decision, Pro Media Group initially received the 88.7 MHz radio frequency, while Broadcast Media was allocated the 92.5 MHz frequency.

The Council also considered applications for licenses for audiovisual media activities. The Council approved the issuance of licenses to İdeal TVNet LLC (İdealnet operator) as a simple platform operator, Azeuronet LLC (Azeuronet operator) as a universal platform operator, and TV1 Media LLC (TV1 television editorial office) as a platform broadcaster without satellite broadcasting.

Furthermore, based on the companies' applications, the licenses of Beeonline OJSC, Global Technology LLC, and Qafqaznet LLC for activities as universal platform operators were revoked.
