According to the statement by NUIJ, while democratic atmospheres continue to grow largely in the country, providing Iraqi journalism with freedom of expression, as well as state and public support, they, however, could not stop the ongoing violence against journalists.
"Iraqi journalism has witnessed vast pains, agonies and suffering in 2016 due to continued targeting and threatening the lives of journalists in the country in an attempt to prevent them from practicing their profession and informing the public. Around 20 Iraqi journalists have been killed by ISIS in Mosul" added the statement.
