According to approximate estimates, the Karabakh region has suffered severely from the presence of nearly 1.5 million landmines and explosive remnants, Samir Poladov, Deputy Head of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), said during a panel session at the 3rd international conference on Mitigating Environmental Impact of Landmines: Resource Mobilization for Safe and Green Future in Zangilan.
"Landmine explosions lead to the release of pollutants such as CO2, SO2, and others, resulting in air pollution, acid rain, and drought," he said.
