The transfer of maps of minefields in Karabakh to Azerbaijan by Armenia will make a valuable contribution to the establishment of peace and harmony in the South Caucasus, UK public figure Patrick Walsh said, Report informs.
“Landmines and unexploded objects are a serious threat to the health, lives and safety of civilian populations around the world. Landmines are different from any other military ordinance. The danger continues after the conflict is over. They cause permanent disabilities, inflicting lifelong injuries, and their direct psychological effects are high. People have to live on the constant fear that they or their children might be suddenly killed or maimed for years to come. I would call on Armenia to share with Azerbaijan maps of mines installed in Azerbaijani territories and to cooperate in the common interest of a safe and peaceful coexistence of all peoples in the region. This would be a valuable contribution to peace and reconciliation in the wider region,” he noted.
A number of foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society activists are collecting signatures for the petition “Global Initiative for a Mine-Free World.”
The petition was posted on the international platform JotForm as part of the international campaign “World for Peace in Caucasus.”
