French political scientist: International organizations should condemn landmine planters

Those who plant landmines that kill and maim civilians should be condemned by international organizations, director of the International Council for Diplomacy and Dialogue, French political scientist Eric Gozlan told Report.

He noted that landmines are the dirtiest weapons of all.

“Unfortunately, more and more often we see in conflicts such a phenomenon as the planting of landmines, the victims of which are civilians. International solidarity is needed to solve the mine problem, to clear mines,” he said.

According to Gozlan, countries should forget about the nature of the conflict, because innocent people become the main victims of future conflicts and wars, children who are not responsible for their occurrence.

“I think that negotiations for the exchange of mine maps is the first thing countries should do after the ceasefire and the end of the conflict,” the political scientist concluded.

April 4 is the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.

According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, since the end of the 2020 war, 288 Azerbaijanis have been blown up by mines, and 50 of them have died.
