The flora of Azerbaijan includes up to 5,000 higher plant species in total, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov told journalists during the media tour organized to Fuzuli and Khojavend districts.

According to him, 2,200 or 42% of them are species found in Karabakh and surrounding territories.

Karimov noted that before the occupation, the district's total forestry area was 124 hectares, of which 108 hectares were forest: “According to satellite imagery, 57 hectares of forest were destroyed during the occupation. At one time, there were 11 oriental planes with the status of natural monuments in the district, and Armenian destroyed all these oriental planes during the occupation. Apart from cutting down these trees, which are 100 years old, they also burned their stumps.”
