What will Zangazur corridor contribute to region?

The declaration signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia on November 10 reflects the issue of the establishment of a land connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. The Zangazur corridor provides this connection. At present, the point of opening the Zangazur corridor is on the agenda.

According to Report, MP, and economist, Vugar Bayramov commented on the impact of this corridor on the Azerbaijani economy and the region.

Bayramov stressed that the opening of the Zangazur corridor would affect the economies of Turkic-speaking countries and increase the importance of the East-West and North-South transport corridors.

According to him, along with uniting the Turkic-speaking countries that have a nominal GDP of more than $ 1.1 trillion, the Zangazur corridor will also increase the strategic importance of Azerbaijan: "The corridor will connect a region with significant economic potential and natural resources."

Bayramov emphasized that the Zangazur corridor would turn Azerbaijan into a transport hub in the region: "Azerbaijan is closely involved in forming the East-West and North-South transport corridors, directly providing financial support for developing the regional part of these transport corridors. It will allow Nakhchivan to have access to these transport corridors through the main territory of Azerbaijan. It will be essential in terms of offering access to Nakhchivan businessmen to the East-West transport corridor. The corridor will also strengthen relations with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the exclave of Azerbaijan and Turkey and increase the geoeconomic importance of our country. Most importantly, the Turkic world will be reunited through the Zangazur corridor after many years."

The Zangazur Corridor was part of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan under the Moscow Agreement signed between Turkey and Russia in 1921, and later the Kars Agreement signed by Georgia, Armenia, and the Azerbaijani SSR.
