UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for investment in sustainable infrastructure and the protection of vulnerable populations, Report informs.
Antonio Guterres made the remark in his address to the participants of the World Habitat Day event, organized in Azerbaijan jointly with UN-HABITAT.
The UN Secretary General's message was read by the Executive Director of the UN-HABITAT program, Maimunah Mohd Sharif.
“Cities are drivers of inclusive, sustainable development and face a number of challenges. These include economic shocks and climate change. We support sustainable urbanization by mobilizing the entire UN system. Economic development and the creation of green spaces will have a positive impact on food production. It is important to ensure the protection of vulnerable groups of the population and invest in sustainable infrastructure,” the message says.
