Parliaments play a special role in urban planning and improving housing provision, Rania Hedeya, a representative of the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States, said during WUF13 in Baku.
According to Report, she noted that global urbanization and housing programs can produce real results only through legislation, accountability mechanisms, and the participation of local executive authorities.
"Parliaments are the main decision-making bodies on issues related to land use, housing finance, urban planning, climate policy, and investment. To address challenges related to forced displacement, housing security, and social inequality, it is necessary to strengthen a human rights-based approach," she said.
