Increasing prices in public transport in Azerbaijan is the most undesirable option for the government, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov said in a public discussion of transport-related problems.
“The Ministry is working on different models and discussing relevant proposals. We assume that there may be some subsidization mechanisms even if there is no price increase in public transport. In the experiences of other countries, we see that public transport is an unprofitable sector,” he noted.
“In addition, the deputy minister said that not only in Baku but in the entire Absheron peninsula, an integrated transport system is needed to ensure the mobility of the people: “Different types of transport should complement each other. There have been certain researches in this regard. If we want our citizens to regularly use public transport, first of all, there should be transport accessibility even to the most remote places.”
