Currently, design and technical-economic feasibility studies are being carried out for a new terminal complex at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, an official from the airport said in a statement to Report.
According to the official, the construction start date will be determined after the completion of this phase: "The passenger capacity of the airport will significantly increase as a result of commissioning the new terminal."
"In 2024, Heydar Aliyev International Airport served nearly 7.54 million passengers, which is 31% more compared to the previous year. The increasing passenger flow and growth in international flights make the construction of a new terminal necessary. This project will make an important contribution to the expansion of air transport infrastructure and will further strengthen Azerbaijan's position as an international aviation hub," the statement noted.
Heydar Aliyev International Airport was built in the 1980s, but numerous reconstructions and modernization works have been carried out since its inception. In 2004, it was named after Azerbaijan's National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
In 2024, Heydar Aliyev International Airport operated 59,238 flights, with a route network covering 80 destinations. The airport offered passengers extensive travel opportunities to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East through 40 airlines, including 18 low-cost carriers.
