The Euro-Asian Transport Corridor (TRACECA) plays an important role in the international arena, as, in addition to economic benefits, it unites countries and peoples, Minister of Transport and Roads of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhanat Beishenov said at an international conference in Baku dedicated to the 20th anniversary of signing the basic multilateral agreement on international transport for the development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridor.
"TRACECA was identified as an independent Eurasian corridor and it is multimodal. It was an ambitious agreement," the minister said.
According to him, in 2018 about 1 million tons of cargo was transported through Kyrgyzstan via TRACECA.
"2,000 km of roads were reconstructed along the TRACECA route in Kyrgyzstan. One of the priority tasks is the construction of a railway from China to Uzbekistan through the territory of Kyrgyzstan," Beishenov said, noting that Kyrgyzstan also pursues an open sky policy.
The Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (EU TRACECA Program) connects Frankfurt (Germany) with Shanghai (China).
The program participants are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Moldova, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Afghanistan.
