Kazuko Ishigaki: AP-UAP platform helping cities move from discussion to action

The Asia-Pacific Urban Agenda Platform (AP-UAP) is helping cities move from discussion to practical implementation of housing and sustainable development solutions, Kazuko Ishigaki, UN-Habitat Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, said at a training event using the Asia-Pacific Urban Agenda Platform (AP-UAP) at WUF13, Report informs.

She noted that many cities in the region have already made significant commitments to implement the New Urban Agenda, but the main challenge now is to translate these commitments into concrete action on the ground.

"The Asia-Pacific Urban Agenda Platform was developed in response to member states' calls for stronger monitoring, structured learning, and reporting on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda," she said.

Ishigaki emphasized that the platform provides a structured and data-driven approach to identifying problems, setting priorities, and linking local actions with global initiatives.

She also noted that one of the platform's key advantages is its integration with the city monitoring system.

"Agreed indicators help cities better understand the causes of housing problems and challenges, as well as link local data to the principles of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals," she added.
